Travel Benefits; Self Development

Travelling is a very good opportunity to develop yourself on a personal level. There are a lot of people out there making jokes about it; You going to travel to find yourself?

This is a bit offending because I am here, I was here and I will always be here, but yes I can improve and the benefits of travelling are huge for my self-development.

This is my top three of what brought me to a higher level while travelling.

  1. I was always a shy person and with travelling alone I needed to get out of my comfort zone to meet new people and get myself in environments where I needed to socialise more. You get to know people so much better and figure out that everybody has a story to tell. It is so interesting how I changed from being very introvert to a more extrovert person. This was a major change in my life.
  2. I am not scared anymore to take risks. When you get on a plane by yourself to the other side of the world it might freak you out. I was so scared and had no idea, what I was doing. During my 12 hour flight I was asking myself, what the hell did I get myself into? I never backpacked before or even been to Asia before. I learned to get myself out of my comfort zone and take risks. I travelled to places that were not on my planning and learned if you take a leap of faith, amazing things can happen. Taking a risk can create beautiful situations and if it doesn’t give you a beautiful outcome if will definitely give you a good life lesson.
  3. One of the biggest benefits of travelling is learning about cultures and different lifestyles. There is not one way of “ right living”. What one country sees as doing the right thing is not the same as another country. It opens your eyes and shows you that there is not one way of living right. You get open-minded about different ways and learn a lot of other peoples ways of living. The biggest thing I learned is that I do not need a lot to make me feel happy. A sunset on the beach with people who care about me is the most precious thing I can have. While before travelling I was only thinking about how to make more money and get a good career (which meant for me more money and status). This life is not about ego at all it’s about big hearts.
